Quran student to Quran teacher:

“I don’t want to recite surah Fil. It’s too big.  Surah Baqarah is much smaller.”

Get it? :) I heard it somewhere, don’t remember where.

I was intimidated by the size of surah Baqarah.

But then I just decided to dive into it.

That is when I fell in love this ayah:

لَا يُكَلِّفُ ٱللَّهُ نَفۡسًا إِلَّا وُسۡعَهَا‌ۚ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتۡ وَعَلَيۡہَا مَا ٱكۡتَسَبَتۡ‌ۗ

God does not burden any human being with more than he is well able to bear: in his favour shall be whatever good he does, and against him whatever evil he does. (Quran, 2:286)

You know that saying “this too shall come to pass?” Well this ayah is 1oo times better than it.

Repeating, reciting and believing in this ayah makes me get through some of the toughest Bipolar episodes, especially the ones that pop up in the wee hours of the night.

There’s just something special about this ayah. It’s so soothing like a mother’s hug and a grandfather’s du’a.

When you recite it with your heart, you feel like you can handle anything because it’s not just you and the world anymore. It’s you+Allah and then the rest of the world that HE created.

  5. …because it’s not just you and the world anymore. It’s you+Allah and then the rest of the world that HE created.

  6. Nafeesa,

Isn’t it great when we understand that “It’s you+Allah and then the rest of the world that HE created.”

The feeling of loneliness and despair just withers away.
