The 7 Deadly Sins of Bipolar

The 7 Deadly Sins of Bipolar

I blog about what we – the Muslims with Bipolar – need…a lot.

And I’ve ignored an important part of we: our support team, our families, siblings, spouses and parents.

During the Bipolar bash, we commit a lot of sins against our support team. Some are done because of Bipolar.

OK. Not great but OK.

Then there’s the 7 deadly sins that we’d like to blame on Bipolar but are just too _____ to admit that it’s really us.

  1. Manipulation
  2. Selfishness
  3. Laziness from salah to sleep
  4. Hypocrisy
  5. Extremism
  6. Victim role
  7. Breaking stuff from plates to promises

Do these deadly sins seem familiar?

  1. Is it easier for men to let themselves be extreme? I find No. 5 to be a good indicator that I’m letting myself get away with stuff and blame it on bipolar.

  2. For me it’s No. 2 and 4

Do you find some of these ‘sins’ apply more to men? Are they more easier for them to fall into?

  3. Assalaamu’alaikum,

Sister Saba, I think, for me is No. 6: victim role…

By the way, I just recover from a severe mania episode. It took about 2-3 months until recovery. I think it because I skipped some of my medication (for a target of my job). It has been 1.5 years without mania, so I am rather shocked. Thanks for writing in http://alinananty.wordpress.com/2008/06/30/bipolar-disorder/#comment-1081. I think that the info exchange about bipolar will help many people.

Would you like to pray for me so that I can restart my activity well (after the mania episode) ?

  4. I will pray for you Ema. Can you do the same for me?

Yeah skipping meds will definitely make you sick.

I did that 4-5 times and after awhile I was just sick of being sick. So now I stick with my medication no matter what. It’s like water for me.

Have your say!
