Like many Muslims, I denied my Bipolar diagnosis for over two years. Then I finally accepted this mental illness. But it soon became the center of my life as I worked on its treatment.

Being a Muslim woman, this was disheartening because I started to lose focus of The One who challenged me with this disorder: Allah. When I lost focus of my Creator, my recovery time only lengthened and I felt each painful second. That’s when www.morningwind.com was born.

MorningWind is my blog proving that mastery of Bipolar and mental illness is possible but only by turning first to Allah for support, guidance and help. The meds, therapy, exercising and diet all come later.

An Islamic lifestyle has all the mental illness mastery tools built into it. That is the essence of MorningWind: a fresh breeze of support and knowledge, open to all just like the morning wind.

And Bipolar or not, we’re all faced with challenges and tests. Loss of a loved one or health. Gain of wealth or pounds. Everything is a challenge. Good news or bad news, it’s all good for us.

So when the nights and hardships draw to a close, the morning is indeed near…bringing glad tidings for the righteous and not-so-glad tidings for the others.

My vision is to make this blog, and in sha Allah my upcoming book, a source of hope and harmony for all Muslims challenged with mental illnesses and disorders.

MorningWind also happens to allude to my Urdu name, Saba :) How invigorating!

  1. Congratulations sister! May Allah SWT allow you to live up to your moniker – and may all that you do inspire and invigorate those that hear you.
And may YOU too have all that is good in this life and the next!
    Love ya,
    Heba

  3. You’re an inspiration, Saba!

May Allah grant you success in all that you do, aameen.

  4. I await the day when I will be able to see all these amazing sisters I’ve heard so much about…in Jannatul Ferdous insha Allah!

  5. Ameen to your du’a Umm Junayd.

Strive, I pray we are united in Jannah. And it seems we’ve already ‘met’, here at MorningWind :-)

  6. Asalamualaikum Saba,

I applaude you for this website! I just watched the clip on Heba’s website and I loved this line: “I don’t fight bipolar, I master it” – what an awesome powerful mantra! May Allah allow you to continue mastering Bipolar and inspire others in the same situation to not be bogged down by their tests and instead strive to rise above them.

PS: Your voice and story sound so familiar…did you take Muhammad Alshareef’s Mastering Your Emotions in Toronto a couple February’s ago?

  7. wa alaikum asalaam Sarrah,

Yes, I love that line too! Why fight Bipolar when we can master it and use it to our advantage. And I think the most splendid advantage is to bring the fresh breeze of recovery from Mood disorders to those still ‘fighting’ mental illnesses.

And yes to your PS :) Alhumdulillah
