  1. Congratulations sister! May Allah SWT allow you to live up to your moniker – and may all that you do inspire and invigorate those that hear you.
And may YOU too have all that is good in this life and the next!
    Love ya,
    Heba

  2. Ameen!

  3. You’re an inspiration, Saba!

May Allah grant you success in all that you do, aameen.

  4. I await the day when I will be able to see all these amazing sisters I’ve heard so much about…in Jannatul Ferdous insha Allah!

  5. Ameen to your du’a Umm Junayd.

Strive, I pray we are united in Jannah. And it seems we’ve already ‘met’, here at MorningWind :-)

  6. Asalamualaikum Saba,

I applaude you for this website! I just watched the clip on Heba’s website and I loved this line: “I don’t fight bipolar, I master it” – what an awesome powerful mantra! May Allah allow you to continue mastering Bipolar and inspire others in the same situation to not be bogged down by their tests and instead strive to rise above them.

PS: Your voice and story sound so familiar…did you take Muhammad Alshareef’s Mastering Your Emotions in Toronto a couple February’s ago?

  7. wa alaikum asalaam Sarrah,

Yes, I love that line too! Why fight Bipolar when we can master it and use it to our advantage. And I think the most splendid advantage is to bring the fresh breeze of recovery from Mood disorders to those still ‘fighting’ mental illnesses.

And yes to your PS :) Alhumdulillah

  8. Asalamualekom

  9. wa alaikum asalaam UmmHend,

Jazaki Allahu Khayran for the feedback. I appreciate it.

I think your project, Emagine, is super. I watched the video many times on iamsheba.com. I love how you are giving a Muslim voice to issues that affect us all.
And about the Bipolar, check your email :)

  10. Mashallah. I love this video. More people need to see it. I will add it to my youtube page Inshallah.

  16. This is a lovely website on a topic that is not really touched upon much in the asian/muslim (or pretty much any) community. Well done, ad keep it up – I am sure you are providing valuable inspiration to many people affected by these issues :)

  19. Thank you amee gee for your wonderful support and continued encouragement!

    I <3 you!

  20. Thanks so much for this site! Salam, I have been dealing with mental illness since age 4-5 years old. I am now 33 years old. I am a convert of 3 years, alhamdulilah! I was just diagnosed in 2006 after being misdiagnosed for sooo many years. May Allah continue to give you the strength to deal with this disease and to inspire others. Ameen.
p.s. Its also unfortunate that much of our Muslim communities look at mental illness as a lack of faith or being away from Allah or not praying enough. NOT TRUE!

  21. You are welcome Dawn.

    Many mental illnesses start young.

I had a lot of signs in my childhood too but we just didn’t know.

    You’re a convert of 3 years…ma sha Allah.

Misdiagnosis can be such a pain…I had to go through a couple myself to get to the bipolar one…sub han Allah.

Yes many Muslims have delusions :) about what mental illness is. Many do think it’s a lack of faith.

I just choose to ignore those kinds of comment. Instead I blog here and have discussions in the comments section.

At least at morningwind, the Muslims understand because we’ve experienced mental illness first hand.

In sha Allah we’ll have a forum soon here so we can have a more solid support network!

  22. Alhumdulillah for this site! I am going to spread the word insha’Allah, to the network I belong to at NAMI, my muslim friends who work in mental health and my muslim friends who struggle with mental illness. Insha’Allah a place to go to for an islamic support group would benefit so many of us in this ummah who live with this illness and for those of us who are caregivers of or loved ones of those who are living with this illness. May Allah (swt) bless you and give younthe best in this world and the next! Ameen!

  23. Salam,
I am sooo glad I found this page! I’m so proud of this website!!! You’re doing an amazing job! Mental health is a very important issue to address. Thank you for putting it all in Islamic terms! May Allah bless you and make you successful in all these projects!

  24. Assalamulaikum,

I’m truly grateful to Allah that I’ve found this site. It’s helped me to further put things into perspective. I’ll leave a longer and more detailed post later on, Inshallah, but I just want to say that many of my personal experiences and realizing the magnitude of these problems (how widespread they are), has truly motivated me to pursue studies in psychiatry (and neuroscience :D ). I’m in my final year of high school, and I think we need many, many more Muslim psychologists and psychiatrists who’ve studied how the Prophet Muhammad (p) and Islam deals with these problems along with an understanding of modern developments in psychology/chiatry.

Take care for now, and fantastic job – may Allah reward you abundantly and ease your hardships!

  25. wa alaikum asalaam Ayman,

I’m really happy that you found our site.

Thanks for your support! And ameen to your du’a.

Yes, we need more Muslim psychologists and psychiatrists who’ve studied how the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and Islam deals with these problems.

It’s important to have the balance between the religious and secular sciences to treat mental illnesses in holistic manner.

  26. As Sallam ul Lakum,

I discovered your web-sight when I was given one of the most recent copies of the Muslim Link. There is an article published in The Muslim Link on Morningwind.ord which is titled: “Gathering puts focus on bipolar illness in Muslim Community.” I am a Muslim Vlogger who has been Vlogging since 2007. I am a community activist and speaker. I enjoyed the content on your web-sight for it hit home for me. I wanted to feature your web-sight and share it with a few selected articles for my viewers over 400 subscribers. I am informing you of this for your consent to proceed, please contact if you have any objections.

    Umar

  27. wa alaikum asalaam Umar,

Thanks for reading the article in the Muslim Link. I really appreciate it.

You are always welcome to feature my website with your viewers :)

May Allah educate all of us on our mental illnesses!

  28. May Allah sustain you! Thank you for educating the ummah on these important mental health challenges :)

  29. Thank you for making this website, May Allah bless you for doing so.

  30. Assalaamu’alaikum.

First of all, Mashallah Saba, I am glad you have managed to channel your BPD into a good Islamic cause. Alhamdulillah the Lord Almighty Allah gave you that strength and will.

I was officially diagnosed a few weeks ago, though I have suspected for many years. I do not want to come across as some hero, but I have always and still do suffer in silence – my family do not know.

Saba, I have been thinking of putting together something like this or a book or something, but I came across this and thought ‘why reinvent the wheel?’. So I would like to offer my help and contribution.

I am a writer by profession, so if I can partner you in any way as a volunteer, please do get in touch with me by email. I am not on facebook, as I felt it was overwhelming me, so I closed my account.

    Thanks and Wassalaam

    Aliah

  31. Wa alaikum asalaam Aliah,

I hope you are feeling better…

I sent you an email at your hotmail. Please check it. If you don’t see it, check your junk mail.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Wasalaam

    Saba
